“Lead Guitar” on Ditty TV

Ditty TV will be debuting the “Lead Guitar” video, shot by my good friend Jeff Shipman, on its show The Curve this Wednesday, May 20 at 10pm CST/11pm EST, alongside videos from heroes Drivin n Cryin, Chris Knight, and others. Catch producer Bronson Tew, Crash Cason (electric guitar), Eric Carlton (keys), Will McCarley (drums) and Matt Patton of Drive-By Truckers (bass) layin’ it down. Here’s a teaser. Tune in and enjoy!

COVID-19 Fundraiser w/ Leesta Vall Sound Recordings

Happy to announce I’m partnering once again with Leesta Vall Sound Recordings to create one-of-a-kind vinyl records and support efforts to combat COVID-19. I’ll be making solo acoustic home recordings of a number of unreleased (and many unheard) songs from quarantine. Your vinyl copy will be THE ONLY VERSION of that song in existence in any physical form! Learn more and PRE-ORDER HERE.

All of my share of the proceeds will go to American Jewish World Service‘s work in the global south to mitigate the spread of the virus in some of the most vulnerable populations in the world. We need folks on the front lines right here at home, and we also need critical support for people living in dire poverty, including refugee camps, in the most underdeveloped, under-resourced areas in the world. Read about AJWS’ work on coronavirus here.

Video Premiere!

Eddie’s Attic premiered the video tonight for “Lead Guitar” from Low Flyin’ Planes, released one year ago this month!

Big thanks to filmmaker Jeff Shipman, producer/engineer and musical partner Bronson Tew, and all the players on the tune – Crash Cason (electric guitar), Will McCarley (drums), Matt Patton of Drive-By Truckers (bass), Eric Carlton (keys), Bronson (electric guitar), and Anne Freeman (harmony vocals).

Enjoy!

The latest episode of the African Sky Podcast is up! Check out my conversation on Malian music with Banning Eyre of Afropop. It’s a solid primer on music from Mali, which is some of the greatest in the world. Dig in on the African Sky website, iTunes, or Stitcher.

Closing out the year

Two shows coming up to close out the year and the decade. This decade saw the release of Wounded Electric Youth (2010), my Mande roots-meets-American roots album Dugu Wolo (2012), Sky Blue DeVille (2013), Archer’s Arrow (2015) and Low Flyin’ Planes (2019). Plenty other songs have been written for future albums. It’s been a while, but I toured in Netherlands, Belgium, UK, and Ireland, and enjoyed travels to Mali, Ghana, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and India, among other places across these still United States. I also got involved in the acting world and, most importantly, got married and became a dad. I plan on this next decade bringing more music, more albums, and more creative pursuits, and hope it brings me to you- wherever you are- to get to meet and play songs.

C’mon out for these fun gigs. Adam Poulin will join in on fiddle:
SAT. DEC. 28Waller’s Coffee Shop– Decatur, GA (8pm)
w/ A. Lee Edwards and Spencer Thomas (Jimba Mathus)
SUN. DEC. 29thAltered Frequencies– Franklin, NC (3pm til… we play @ 4:30pm)
